Ripple Fisher Big Tuna 86 Japan Special

With the help and know-how of anglers and charter boat captains, our collective data has expanded and the evolution of tuna fishing has grown exponentially.
We can confidently say that tuna species, domestically or internationally are the biggest and strongest targets we face today.
So what can Ripplefisher do to help as a manufacturer realize the anglers dreams and challenges? What do anglers seek? These are questions we ask ourselves daily and through countless trial and error, the BIG TUNA series was developed.
Rod making is a continuous challenge and has allowed us to grow as a rod manufacturer. The “BIG TUNA” must be a series that will continue to effect anglers in the ever-changing environment and lead a path forward to the future.
In 2024, Ripplefisher will release 3 models with the above mentioned dreams and ideals.

BIG TUNA 70 JAPAN Special / POWER CLASS
BIG TUNA 710RT JAPAN Special / HEAVY CLASS
BIG TUNA 86 JAPAN Special / HEAVY CLASS

In recent years, there have been super-size tuna in the Japan sea and the style of fishing has evolved to utilize super strong line exceeding PE14 specifications with straight pumping. The BIG-TUNA 70 is our answer to such situations to eliminate all limitations we have previously placed upon ourselves.
The 710RT and 86 are “retuned” models of the previously released 710 and 85. It has been a decade since the foundation of the BIG TUNA models of 710 and 85 were released into the world. We have upgraded and optimized these models to cater for the ever-changing needs and environment around us.
We did not simply make it more bendy nor make it cast farther than before. Rather, through the combination of various different materials of carbon sheets and unique taper design with underlying butt power, we were able to realize a rod capable of enduring extreme load while the repulsive force lifting the fish from the deep.
We hope you can first handedly experience the new lineup of the BIG TUNA series in 2024.

BIG TUNA Bending Curve

Here are the bending curves of the different models in the BIG TUNA series with a static weight and differing anglers. It will give you an understanding of the bending point and how much power is left in the butt section.
*the picture may not illustrate the actual power of the rod due to the differing rod length and angle. With the help and know-how of anglers and charter boat captains, our collective data has expanded and the evolution of tuna fishing has grown exponentially.

In the BIG-TUNA series, the power category is set to make the rod characteristics easier to understand.
For example, among the 86, 710RT, 73, 76, and 70 that have the same line max value, the 73, 76, and 70 are designed to increase the breaking strength in order to target the extra-large class. The 86 and 710RT come in different power categories and can be used in situations where a distant throw is required, such as a lure, or in situations where a finer lure is required.
The 85 F, 87AS, and 83 are models that can also be used to target yellowfin tuna, and are generally considered to be 85 F for tuna sizes under 50 kg, or 87AS and 83 for tuna sizes under 80 kg.
Please consider the lure size, line, size of tuna, and required lure appeal when selecting a model.
The rod design of the BIG-TUNA series is color-coded with thread colors that match the power class below. Also, the model name is engraved on the spacer on the reel sheet of the grip.

BIG TUNA 86 JAPAN Special

If you require long and accurate casting with a heavy class tackle, this 86 will be your choice. In comparison to your ordinary heavy tackle, the flexible tip on the 86 will allow for easier casting of smaller lures when the bait-fish are small though the Tuna are huge. The bending point (pivotal point) is closer to the body allowing anglers to take initiative during the fight.
