Product information

It is said that squid eyes possess a "polarisation sense."
Polarisation refers to light in which the direction of light waves is aligned to a certain degree. The surface of baitfish that squid prefer reflects strong polarisation, and squid use this light as a clue to identify their prey—Yamashita focused on this possibility.

If Yamashita could apply this characteristic to squid jigs, Yamashita thought they could make them closer to live bait. Not only is it an element that appeals to squid, but Yamashita also wanted anglers to be able to experience polarization, which is normally invisible to humans, so Yamashita went through a lot of trial and error, and it has culminated in the new technology "PolaMagic." We
have incorporated it into "Egi-Oh K" and released it.

Yamashita have prepared two colours: one devised by researcher Mori to make the most of its function, and another that Master Kawakami intuitively felt he "wanted to use" based on his experience.
Furthermore, Yamashita would like EGI-OH fans to become part of the YAMASHITA EGING LABO research team and help cultivate and develop this technology—we have put this feeling into the "Researcher's Certificate."
Yamashitawill have people experience our products in fields across the country, and Yamashita will use that feedback to develop future products.

Polamag - Features and functions

■ Recreating the Polarisation of Baitfish
Observation of the body surface of fish such as horse mackerel and mackerel revealed that the reflected light contains a strong polarising component.
To recreate this characteristic, Yamashita have incorporated a "Polamagi Sheet," which emits polarisation in various directions depending on the transmission of light, into the body of the squid jig.

■ Experience a Simulated View of a Squid
Polarity is normally invisible to the human eye.
However, with "Polamagi," patterns and colours become visible when viewed through polarized sunglasses that have characteristics similar to those of a squid's eye, allowing you to experience a simulated view of the world as a squid might see.
This is the origin of the name "Polamagi," which stands for "Magic with Polarisation."

■ Polarized Patterns That Change with Posture and Orientation
The patterns and colors visible through polarized sunglasses change constantly depending on the posture and orientation of the squid jig.
Squid may perceive these changes through their polarized vision, making it a significant appealing element.

Expectations for Polamag

■ Encountering Squid Yamashita've Never Seen Before
Considering the difference between real bait and artificial lures—this is an eternal challenge for us.
Polarization narrows that gap and is a new element that appeals to the squid's vision.
It should be a new step that will make squid that previously didn't react turn their heads.

YAMASHITA Research and Development Department, Mori: "Supervised Color: Polar Magic Rainbow"

Comment from Mori of YAMASHITA's R&D Department:
"Squid eyes can sense polarization"—when Yamashita conceived of a new technology based on that idea, we simultaneously faced the challenge of "Can we excite anglers with polarization that humans cannot perceive?" In the field of optical technology, there has been much trial and error in the past to "visualize polarization" so
that Yamashita humans can imagine the view that squid might see
, and methods have been established.
With "Polamag," Yamashita applied that principle and expressed polarization, which is normally imperceptible, as a change in color that appears when viewed through "polarized sunglasses," which have now become an essential item for eging.
This is a phenomenon created by "light transmission," and modern egi with transparent bodies were the material that could bring out the maximum potential of this.
In the supervised color "Polamag Rainbow," Yamashita made the most of this characteristic and placed a light-gathering window with a cedar pattern on the back of the fabric to take in a lot of light.
The traditional cedar pattern in egi has been elevated into a design that highlights the new technology.
The entire back is adorned with a colorful rainbow of colors, harmonizing with the color changes emanating from the body.
The essential function of an egi (squid jig), visibility to the angler, is also ensured.
This product is a fusion of optical technology, eging (squid fishing), and the ecology of squid, each with its own distinct history.
Experience this new possibility in your own fishing grounds.

YAMASHITA Eging Master Kawakami: "Supervised Color: Polar Majimejina"

Comment from YAMASHITA Eging Meister Kawakami:
The color "Polaris Majimejina" that I supervised this time is modeled after the mejina (Gure/Kuro), a baitfish that inhabits the environments that bigfin reef squid prefer throughout Japan and is frequently seen at fishing spots.
In eging, it is said that "it is ideal if there are baitfish such as sardines," but you do not always encounter that situation.
In that respect, mejina can be encountered in various areas throughout the year and is a familiar prey for bigfin reef squid.
Since the days when jigs were made of wood and towable types were made, there has been a long history of producing many "mejina type"
jigs, and it is a fish that has a deep connection to eging.

Although it is a fish species that is less transparent than small migratory fish, Yamashita have incorporated into the design the characteristic that "the polarizing element is stronger in the less transparent part of the back than on the belly," as explained by Mr. Mori of Eging Lab.

Furthermore, Yamashita have incorporated the faint blue and green stripes and spots that appear when small mejina are excited or stressed, recreating the scene in which bigfin reef squid actually chase mejina.

As a result, it combines the "transparency" that is effective for bigfin reef squid with a realistic bait appearance seen in fishing fields across the country.
The colour and specifications are both satisfying.
